Mercantic, located in Sant Cugat del Vallès, is a vibrant and eclectic marketplace that draws lovers of vintage and antique treasures from all over. Housed in a sprawling complex of former industrial buildings, this unique destination is a haven for mid-century modern enthusiasts. Within its labyrinth of stalls, visitors can find an impressive array of mid-century furniture, lighting, and decorative objects, all carefully curated by knowledgeable vendors.
There are individual stores housed within the old factory and outside it as well.
From iconic Eames lounge chairs to 1960s chandeliers, Mercantic offers a treasure trove of design finds that appeal to both collectors and casual shoppers alike. There are large vintage record and bookstores too so collectors of all kinds will find what they are looking for here.
A perfect souvenir, if you are on holiday in Barcelona, is a 1970s soda siphon. You will see these decorating many of the coolest bars in the city. And of course, I have one gracing my drinks trolley. You will find plenty to choose from at Mercantic.
It is best to visit on a Sunday if you want the full experience. Many stores and restaurants are closed during the week but on Sunday, it springs to life. The lively atmosphere is enhanced by the presence of artisan workshops, cafes, and even live music, making it a cultural hotspot that blends the old with the new in a truly dynamic way.
