Barcelona Chair and Footstool

Mad About Mid Century Modern FigureMies was another man of many mistresses. These designers were a racy bunch. Lilly was one of them and may have had a great deal more to do with the Barcelona design than she has been credited with. ‘Twas ever thus.

Barcelona Chair and Footstool

The Mies Van der Rohe Barcelona Chair and Footstool, designed for The German Pavilion, was that country’s entry for the International Expo in Barcelona in 1929. It was designed in case Spanish royalty wished to sit during their tour of the Expo (they didn’t) This iconic chair design resulted from a collaboration between famous modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and the architect and designer Lilly Reich. An icon of modernism, the design of the Barcelona chair was inspired by folding chairs of ancient times.

Our high quality reproduction has a polished stainless steel frame with Italian leather covered cushions. Some minor assembly required.

Footstool Dimensions: h46cm x w80cm x d78cm
